2012 Scrapbook Trend #7: Honeycomb Shapes

Hello and welcome to the latest installment of the 2012 Scrapbook Trends. I was really looking forward to this one, which is honeycomb shapes. I have been seeing this all over the place, and I really love this look. There are several carts that include a honeycomb (or hexagon) shape- I used Winter Woodland- and it is a great way to use your scraps, or just play around with different embellishments. Really fun! For my layout I actually printed and cut all my honeycomb shapes with my Imagine. It has been very neglected, so I decided to break it out. I loved how I could cut the shape and then print it with all the different coordinating patterns. All the paper was printed with the Imagine More Cards, and the title and flourish were cut with Yummy. Here is my layout:

I was so excited to discover that I have this notebook paper print. I tend to forget what I have sometimes, lol, But I have a feeling this print is going to be getting a workout now!

Here is a closeup of some of the honeycomb shapes. It was really fun assembling it, kindof like putting a puzzle together, and so many different ways to go with it!

I added some buttons and brads for interest.

I cut the title from Printing Press (I love the mixed fonts!) and printed it with a pattern from Yummy. The pattern was actually a much darker brown than what it printed. Disappointing, but I still used it :)

The flourish is also cut from the Yummy cart. I popped it up on pop-up glue dots for some depth. This is just a personal preference, but I really like the look of the prints on non-textured paper better. I didn't have any 12x12 non textured paper, so I printed it on the 'back' or less textured side and it was just fine.

4 Crafty Chicks Guest Designer post!

Hi everybody! I was honored to be chosen as a guest designer for the month of February by the talented ladies over at 4 Crafty Chicks! I'm really excited because they have some really fun challenges, and I've never been a 'guest' designer before, so this is really exciting for me!
This week the theme for challenge #75 is a color challenge:

I love the colors they chose to work with because they are really versatile. These colors spoke to a winter project for me though, and I just happened to have a new paper collection from Echo Park that fit beautifully. Here is what I came up with:

We have been pretty light on snow here in Utah this year (which I'm not going to complain about too much!) but my dogs LOVE to play in the snow. So, when we had our first big snowfall I grabbed my new camera to document some of their frolic. They are so silly in the snow. I obviously had a lot of pics, so I picked a couple favorites, and printed some others in a contact sheet size so I could include a lot of photos, without overwhelming my page. All the paper and embellies are from the Echo Park Winter Park (this is a great winter collection). I cut the scalloped frame/mat from Elegant Edges and the title is from Winter Woodland. Easel Card

Hello! I am so excited to finally be able to start participating in challenges again after my move and car accident injury! I have really missed doing all the fun challenges out there!! One thing I missed is those challenges that get you to learn and try new techniques. That was the case with the challenge over at My Craft Spot this week- Easel Card.  I have never made an easel card, but have been very interested in learning new card techniques.  They had a link to a great instructional video on their challenge post and it was very fun and easy! I am also entering the card in the challenge at Frosted Designs this week which was to use die cuts!

All the paper is from SEI's Glitzmas collection (really love this paper collection- I've used it for 4 projects this week alone, lol). I just recently got the Elegant Edges cartridge, so I was very excited to break that one out! I used it for the border. I cut the tree with Winter Woodland, and added some Glossy enamel for the snow. The stamp sentiment is, of course, from Robin's Creative Cottage.  Here is a close up of my winter tree:
