We Wish you a Merry Christmas for Scrapbook USA Expo

Hello friends! It's Heather and I have another fun holiday layout to share with you today using the ADORABLE Winter Wonderland collection from My Mind's Eye. I love the bright colors in this collection, it was really fun to work with. Here is my layout:

 

 My cute nephews got their picture taken with 'Santa' (it was their dad dressed as Santa, how cute is that??) and the bright colors in the photo matched perfectly with the bright colors in the papers. I used a cute sketch from Jenny Evans as inspiration, and then just ran with it. I started with some spray ink on white cardstock. I figured out that if you depress the nozzle slowly you get the bigger paint splatters, vs the fine mist you get when you depress it quickly. I like the bigger splatters so it took a lot of trial and error to figure that out!

 

Next I cut out a bunch of solid circles and circle frames on my die cutting machine out of several different coordinating papers and layered them beneath my photo. I topped them with some cute buttons and chipboard shapes for a fun, whimsical look.

 

 

I used a sticker as my title (love what a time saver that is!!) and added some additional stickers and my project was complete! I hope you enjoyed my project, thanks so much for stopping by today!!

Practical Scrappers DT Post: Negative Space

Hello friends and welcome to another post for Practical Scrappers. Today we are featuring layouts that use negative space. Again so many different ways to go with this, and different interpretations of what you consider negative space. I chose to use the negative space of shapes that I cut into my base with my Cricut, as well as the negative space of some letters that I used for the title. Here is the layout:

This is a cute photo I took of Cash with his toy using Instagram. So this is how I utilized the 'negative space' on this layout. First, I took my piece of kraft paper and cut some shapes with my Cricut. I moved the blade around the mat as well as varied the size to create more interest. This could also be done (probably more easily) with the Gypsy and CCR. After cutting my shapes I adhered patterned paper behind the cut-out shapes negatives, and then added the positives around them. Here is a better look:

I layered my photo and a paper strip over a bigger shape:

I then cut part of my title on a 'scratch' piece of paper. I laid down the negative over where I wanted my title and sponged on some acrylic paint:

I sponged some additional paint (I used a wadded-up paper towel as my 'sponge') along the edges of the layout at the top and bottom, and added a couple of small border strips.

Practical Scrappers DT Post: Clouds

Hello my friends! Welcome to my second design team post for Practical Scrappers! This week we are playing with clouds on our projects! I love the look of clouds on layouts and was excited to play with this theme. Here is my layout:

 

I used an awesome sketch from Rochelle Spears for this layout and I had a lot of fun with it. In the sketch she showed a ring of stitching. I decided to try my hand at masking for mine. I cut a circular image from Accent Essentials (I thought it slightly resembled a sun and would work well with my summer-y layout), then I used the negative image as a mask with yellow smooch spray. The paper is from the My Mind's Eye collections. I am getting a lot of mileage out of these, lol! Now onto my clouds:

I used a chevron print patterned paper and then embossed the clouds with a swirl pattern.

I decided to try my hand at the new confetti trend to add a little emphasis around the clouds. I'm not sure if I was successful or not, ha! I used the 'leftovers' from my border punch.

Aren't these wood tile letters just the cutest?? I took these from the Echo Park This & That- Graceful pack, then added some Cricut cut letters from Songbird.

I cut a square of this notebook lined paper is from the Follow your Dreams line to make a journaling spot. I punched it with a notebook edge punch and then roughed it up a bit.
