Two

A fun challenge over at The Paper Variety this week: Make a birthday project and incorporate a banner. How fun! And I am loving banners lately, LOL! I decided to do a page for my nephew's birthday from last month.
The patterned paper is from Basic Grey: life of the party, cardstock from Bazzil, buttons from Button Bonanza, twine from My Craft Spot, cartridges used: George and Basic Shapes (triangle banner), Makin the Grade (title) and Wild Card (orange banner).

The Bee's Knees

The challenge over at Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog this week is to incorporate YELLOW in your project. Now as I mentioned in an earlier post, yellow is not my favorite color. However, I had actually been wanting to do a LO with black and white and yellow, and this provided the perfect opportunity!

The papers are a bit of a mixture: DCWV (black/white polka dots), K & Company (yellow floral) and Creative Memories (black and white) , cardstock is DCWV. The cartridges used are Mother's Day Bouquet (flowers and large circles}, Makin' the Grade (title) and Create a Critter (Bee). I misted the flowers with water, then crumpled for a more dimensional effect. TFL!!

A Day for the Dogs

I love this pic of Hubby and my fur kids. :) The challenge over at Frosted Designs this week is to incorporate a 'school' paper (i.e notebook paper, ledger paper, etc.) into your project.  I actually had been wanting to do a project with a mini notebook page torn out for journaling.  Nothing like a challenge to get you to do all those things you've been meaning to do, lol! Without further adieu, I give you A Day for the Dogs!
Pattterned paper is Basic Grey Junebug collection (LOL- that's my girls name!), cardstock by DCWV and coredinations, cartridges: Accent Essentials (scalloped square) George and Basic Shapes (Title, banner, circle), flowers Basic Grey.

I have SO many projects on my plate right now (aside from scrapbooking!) but can't neglect my wood crafts! Especially with HALLOWEEN just around the corner!!!

Road Trip!

The Paper Variety challenge this week is Travel/Transportation theme. I've had a group of photos of a Las Vegas trip waiting to be scrapped for, well, quite some time now! Nothing like a challenge to get that fire lit! LOL. So without further adieu, I give you the Road Trip portion of our trip, ha ha!
Products: Basic Grey Hello Luscious collection, Basic Grey Bloomers, Title: Don Juan, Journaling spot: Accent Essentials.

Hopeful

I love the Whimsical Wednesday challenge for this week! It was to incorporate an inspirational word (love, peace, hope, faith, etc.) into your project.  I actually liked this photo of myself (a rare occurance! LOL) and thought Hope was a good theme for my LO. Hope you like it, TFL!
Products used: Patterned paper: Basic Grey Porcelain collection, Title: Printing Press cartridge, pearl flourish: Recollections, Tickets: Tim Holtz, Brads: Crate Paper. I created the flowers myself!

38

Hello my friends! Today I bring you a page about...ME! My birthday to be exact! Birthdays are not exactly my favorite anymore, but Hubby sure made this one special this year! <3 This also fits in with the theme over at Fantabulous Cricut this week: Birthdays! (How convenient!) ;)
Products used: patterned paper: Basic Grey Life of the Party collection, cardstock DCWV, pinwheels: Basic Grey, Title: Simply Sweet
Journaling reads: Brandon really came through for my 38th birthday- First he surprised me with this huge bouquet of flowers at work- all the girls were jealous! Then he took me to my favorite restaurant-The Cheesecake Factory! Then we went miniature golfing at Boondocks!

How Time Files

I love the sketch for Sassy Lil Sketches this week, I thought it fit perfectly with the vintage theme I wanted for this great picture of my Dad from High School. The LO lent itself perfectly to the theme at Frosted Designs this week: time or clocks.  I love this vintage style paper from Bo Bunny's timeless collection. I also used some Tim Holtz embellishments, Old West cartridge for the timepiece and Calligraphy cart for the title. TFL!!
Here is the original sketch I used:

Halloween is coming!

Here is on of those 'other' projects I made reference to earlier.  Had to take a little trip to Wood Connection earlier this week since they put up all their Halloween stuff. Let me just say, it was hard to pick just 3!! But I managed somehow, as Hubby would continue to complain that our whole house can't be decorated in woodcrafts.  I beg to differ, but it's all about compromise, LOL. Anyway, first up- this adorable bat trio!  LOVE Halloween!!!

Party Invitation

So my sister asked me to create the invititations for my nephew's one year birthday party. The theme is 'Teddy Bear Picnic'. This is what I came up with- thought it would also be perfect for the challenge at Cooking with Cricut this week where the theme is picnic! I used Create a Critter for the bear and balloon, and Everyday Paper Dolls for the picnic basket. Paper is by DCWV, and coredinations.

Hangin with my Peeps!

Hello! It's been a busy week/weekend, but I am hoping to get at least 3 projects posted today! I've got so much I'm working on right now there will be many projects (and different types of projects to come!).  First up is this weeks entry in The Paper Variety Challenge which was to incorporate thread (twine, ribbon, floss, etc.) I chose twine because I had been wanting to use it in a project for awhile and I thought it fit well with my cute chicks! (and yes, these are my cute little Cochin chicks in my arms!) Hope you enjoy!

Journaling says: In Spring 2009 the apartment we were renting in Lehi, UT came with a built in chicken coop so we decided to raise chickens for farm-fresh eggs. These 3 little cochins were my favorite- I just loved their cute feathered feet!
The paper I used was from Fancy Pants Designs, Cardstock from DCWV, cartridges: Country Life (chickens) and Alphalicious (Title)

Whimsical Wednesday 3 times the charm

I was so excited when I saw this weeks Whimsical Wednesday Challenge- Three Times a Charm. It's 3 cuts, 3 colors and 3 embellies- how fun! What's funny was I was all set to start a new project, and then I realized I had a 4th of July project "in progress" that needed to be finished. How perfect! It was already 3 colors! I just needed to add 3 cuts (the banner flags) and 3 embellies (those darling clothespins!). Ha ha! Perfect!

Patterned paper from Karen Foster Designs, cardstock DCWV, cartridge Independence Day, clothespins from Heartfelt Creations (local scrapbook store). Hope you like!

Frosted Designs Challenge

They have a really fun challenge over at Frosted Design- create a project with an animal on it. Well, that's really a stretch for me! LOL. I have this great photo of Cash that I really wanted to showcase, handsome little devil ;)

Love this...

I got this in my email today from Lain Ehmann over at Layout a Day and I really REALLY like the sentiment. Especially since I am definitely one of those scrappers that holds themselves to a very high standard. It's hard not to compare yourself with others, especially when there is so much talent out there! I always have to remind myself what Lain is saying here- that if it looks good to me then that is good enough! Because your opinion is the ONLY one that matters! Anyway, I'm re-posting it because I really liked what she had to say, and I hope you do too!

Dearest darling scrapster-
I love scrapbooking magazines. I've subscribed to a ton (and worked at my fair share!). Bt as I leafed through a recent issue, the thought occurred to me that I really don't want to work that hard at scrapbooking.
Don't get me wrong -- I love scrapbooking. But I don't want to have to read a magazine -- any magazine -- to tell me how to do it. Yes, I love the inspiration and the ideas, but the thought struck me that these are MY memories I'm documenting, and MY scrapbooks I'm putting them in. And I'm the best judge of what fits and what doesn't. While we can all use a jolt of creative juice every now and then, when it comes right down to it, we're the bosses of our own scrapbooking. If we like something, we should do it. If we don't, take a pass. It's as simple as that.
I think that magazines (not just scrapbooking ones) walk a fine line between helping people become better at something, and setting up the idea that there is one "right" way to do things. And just as Cosmo and Vogue can make you feel too fat, too short, too old, and too wrinkled, scrapbooking mags can make you feel that your pages are too crooked, your writing is too messy, your products are too old, and your pictures are too dark.

NOT SO. Yes, there may be room for improvement (I see things I'd like to improve on all the time!), but your pages are precious just as they are. The goal is not to create perfect pages, but to document your perfect memories -- and your memories are perfect JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE YOURS.

If reading scrapbooking mags and looking through galleries and perusing blogs makes you feel like NOT scrapbooking because you are not "good enough," STOP RIGHT NOW. You should feel encouraged, validated, and welcomed, not belittled, beleagured, and small.

Scrap the way you want, and the way you are. You have my permission (not that you need it!).

New Challenge Blog!!

So I discovered another new challenge blog- I know, I know, when is it going to stop, lol! Anyways... I had to jump on board with this one because it is all about Cricut!  And seeing as I am predominately a Cricut scrapper, this one is just my style! It's called Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog- check them out if you love scrapping with your Cricut- great fun! I had a blast creating this layout, one of the funnest ones I've done in quite some time!  The challenge for this week is to incorporte a cupcake or other baked good in your project. Funny thing was, I wasn't even going to use this layout for the challenge because I didn't think I could fit a cupcake in the theme.  Then I found this cupcake on Rock Princess and thought it was perfect! With the cross bones it perfectly fit my tough yet sweet image of my niece the 'Biker Babe'.  I used Jubilee for the title and everything was cut with Yummy for Imagine. Hope you like!!
The cardstock is by Colorbok (only $5 for a pad of 50 at WalMart- what a deal!) and I also used smooch spray.

Hey Sugar

Time for more challenges! I decided to try my hand at creating a card using the Sassy Lil' Sketches card sketch. I was having so much fun playing around with my new Imaging Yummy cart I decided to carry some of the images and colors over to this card! So much fun! By the way here is the original sketch...
And here is my take... TFL!!

Sassy Lil' Sketches

Hi y'all! I discovered an awesome new challenge blog last night- Sassy Lil' Sketches! This one they provide you with a sketch and then you make your LO (or card) based on that sketch. This one is right up my alley! I love taking an existing sketch and then putting my spin on it! :)  Here is this weeks sketch:

And here is my spin on it! I used a Halloween theme because, well, I love Halloween!, I had some great photos that would work and I thought it would be a fun take on their sketch.  The cardstock is DCWV (as usual), patterned paper from We R Memory Keepers, Cartridges are October 31st and Happy Hauntings, rub-on from Fancy Pants! Hope you like!! :) :) :)

2 Peas in a Pod

Trying out a new style here, and I obviously need a little practice with this. Fell in love with this paper- Bo Bunny Gabrielle kit. I love Bo Bunny!! I love vintage, but need a little more practice with this vintage, romantic style :). I wanted to use one of those cute, swirly rhinestone accents, but didn't have one so I improvised with some glossy accents.  Love that stuff, it's been a while since I broke it out!  Anyway, its hard to see in the main picture so I included a close-up. I also used DCWV cardstock (another favorite!), Accent Essentials and Picturesque cartridges, Prima flowers and Tim Holtz distress ink. TFL!

New Whimsical Wednesday challenge

Like I mentioned in my previous post, challenges can be, well...challenging :). The new challenge for Whimsical Wednesday this week was a Back to School project.  I actually wasn't even going to participate this week as 'Back to School ' is a little foreign for me. But then I had this idea, and thought, well, the whole point of these challenges is to stretch yourself a little bit, reach outside of your creative comfort zone!  So I created this little decorative tin that you can use to store lunch money (hence...lunch bucks, lol), notes, small knick knacks, etc. Hope you enjoy!

New Paper Variety challenge!

So, I am brand new to the world of blogs and challenges, but I can see why scrappers find them so addicting! They push you out of your comfort zone and expand your creative limits. That was definitely the case with the challenge this week for The Paper Varierty, The challenge was to incorporate citrus colors (that is yellow, green and orange) into your project. Being that I am not the biggest fan of yellow or orange, it was definitely a challenge to create a project with a color combination that I wouldn't normally work with! Turns out I found this great paper in my stash (funny how that works!) and found a photo and voila! Hope you enjoy! :)
Products used: patterned paper (My Mind's Eye), cardstock (DCWV- I am in LOVE with this stuff!), Cricut Cartridges (Jasmine, Mother's Day Bouquet, George and Basic Shapes), buttons (Button Bonanza), Embroidery Floss (DMC), glitter domes (Crystal Stickers ??)

My hubby got a new toy this weekend so that meant lots of scrapbooking time for me!! I love this LO of my nephew Sevyn. He loves to play in the water but is less than thrilled if someone splashes water on him. The look on his face is priceless!

Whimsical Wednesday challenge

I decided to try a new challenge- this one is for the Whimsical Wednesday blog (http://www.whimsicalwednesdays.blogspot.com/). This one was to incorprate humor in your LO. I'm not sure how well this LO fits, but I found it funny!  Maybe its a 'guess you had to be there' but anyone with dogs should understand how they just manage to insert themselves into all aspects of your lives! Products used: patterned paper Bo Bunny, cricut 'Makin the Grade' cart.
